Thanks to Jamie Crawford, our instructional coach, for compiling these resources for staff, students, and parents as we move through our SLP process!
Our If/Then statement, which defines our challenge of practice, describes student area of need and how we will respond, is outlined below. This is a working statement, and can be adjusted at any time as we move through the process:
“IF we use math talk strategies (i.e., number talks), THEN students should be able to solve a variety of math problems involving addition, subtraction, multiplication and/or pision using mental math strategies.”
A number talk is defined as: “A short, ongoing daily routine that provides students with meaningful ongoing practice with computation…a powerful tool for helping students develop computational fluency because the expectation is that they will use number relationships and the structures of numbers to add, subtract, multiply and divide.”
