Achievement and School Improvement Planning

Measures of Student Achievement and Success

All grade 3 and 6 students participate in the provincial assessment activities organized by the Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) in May/June.

A variety of assessments are used to give a broad base for determining students' successes, both academic and non-academic, such as: in-class assignments, tests, projects, individual and group activities, student presentations, and teacher observation.

There are 3 formal reporting periods (November, February and June) for all students from grades 1 to 6. In November parents receive a Progress Report and meet with the teachers during interview times; while in February/June parents receive regular report cards where their child’s academic achievement and progress is reported.

School Improvement Plans and Initiatives

Along with the review of the EQAO results, teaching staff also take into consideration other assessment data gathered throughout the school year, including: daily observations of student performance, ongoing assessments, portfolios, report card results, demographic factors and other community information. The data is examined by staff with the aim to review and enhance long range planning and to improve the effectiveness of the instructional program.

EQAO results are discussed with the staff, School Council, and shared with the parents via the School Newsletter and the school’s website. School Improvement Plans for Student Achievement for the 2023-24 school year will focus on Well-Being, Literacy and Numeracy. Staff are working collaboratively to develop in our students their mathematical reasoning in problem-solving by representing their thinking orally, through concrete materials and displays, physical demonstrations, or in written form using pictures, symbols and words.
