National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation is a national holiday in this country. It was
initiated by Phyllis Webstad, Northern Secwépemc (Shuswap) from the Stswecem’c
Xgat’tem First Nation (Canoe Creek Indian Band). Webstad created Orange Shirt Day
as a way of honouring the Indigenous children who were sent away to residential
schools in Canada. National Truth and Reconciliation Week September 22nd - 26th
2025, with the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation taking place on Tuesday,
September 30th, 2025.

Students will be centering their learning on Indigenous ways of knowing, not only today, but throughout the school year. We will look to explore the Calls to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada and work towards making meaningful action.
