Our School
Dunlop School is a community school located on several acres of grassed land in South Keys. The school is enriched by its diverse socio economic, cultural and multilingual student population. Our school actively involves students, teachers and parents in the establishment and growth of a positive school climate in which each child can enjoy and realize his/her maximum learning potential and develop into a responsible, caring, skilled and confident member of society.
Our Students
Dunlop P.S. has an enrollment of 133 students. Our diverse student population represents many different countries and language groups. Students in our attendance area move to Blossom Park P.S. or Featherston Drive P.S. for Middle French Immersion. Our Grade 6 students in the Regular English program move on to Roberta Bondar P.S. for Grades 7 and 8.
Our Staff
Dunlop P.S. has 11 full time equivalent teachers on staff. We also have a number of full and part-time support personnel (1.5 educational assistants, 2 early childhood educators, 1 office administrator, 1 office assistant & 1 custodial staff). This year we are pleased to have one Lunch Monitor and Healthy Snack Monitor supporting teachers and students at Nutrition Break times.
Many of our teachers have additional or Specialist Qualifications in one or more of the following: Special Education, English as a Second Language, French as Second Language, Science and the Arts. The teachers, office, and support staff work as a team, continuously seeking professional growth opportunities, in order to ensure our school is a safe and caring place to learn and to model life-long learning.
Our Community
Drawing from the South Keys and Greenboro Communities, families at Dunlop Public School represent a rich diversity of people who bring a wealth of different experiences to share and enrich our school.
Volunteers are welcomed to participate in school activities and in support of the instructional program. They form an important component of our school community. We welcome student placements from Algonquin College and from various Bachelor of Education programs. We also have many community volunteers who join with our parents during the school day to participate in a variety of activities, including: reading to kindergarten children, classroom help, organizing fundraising events, tutoring, working in the library, etc. We look forward to the day we can partner with parents in this meaningful way once again.
Our School Council has historically consisted of an active volunteer group of members of the school community who work tirelessly on behalf of the students. Currently there are not enough members to create a full School Council. Instead, we run a Principal's Huddle every 2 months in order for parents to have an opportunity to learn about upcoming events and plans for students. Please keep an eye open for opportunities to support school activities and fundraisers. Parent support is needed and appreciated.
Our School is a Community School, used regularly by various organizations. Currently a local soccer club practices in our gym four nights a week.
